Bollywood is not my cup of tea: Shuttler Saina Nehwal

She’s back in her satellite resident city — Hyderabad — after a much-talked-about win at the Hong Kong Open at Wanchai, as Haryanvi lass Saina Nehwal is much at home in South India after being there for almost twelve years now. “I love dosas and idlis as much as aloo parathas and paneer butter masala now,” laughs the badminton champion and the darling of the sports season.

With festivity in the air, Nehwal seems to have got what she wants this year in her X’mas stocking and she’s looking forward to doing something that she hardly does —party! “It will be with a few close pals. We’ll just head to a restaurant and have dinner but that’s just about it. Because I have to be fit , I can hardly have the food I love.

Also, with the World Cup coming up next year and the Super Series — in which I play in Malaysia and Korea — I have to train hard every chance I get.”

For a 20-year-old girl, isn’t there something else her heart might desire? “For now it’s just the game. I’ve no time for studies or making friends as I practise eight hours a day. I do like to go shopping if I can snatch the time or then watch movies.”

After fellow sports stars Leander Paes, Brett Lee and others, is she also tempted to make her way into B-Town? “No, I’m not fascinated by Bollywood… it’s not my cup of tea,” admits the shuttler.
